I have currently been upgrading my blog. I have used wordpress for sometime now but find it more and more difficult for me to manage it. I want to create a full blog experience and wordpress does not make this easy. I will be switching soon to another blog site. I will post more soon. I have also been involved in some recent shoots and will post them in the coming days. Sorry for the delay since the last time I wrote. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

day 3, 4&5: the BW view

I have recently I decided to shoot only in BW for awhile. Something about BW photographs that add deeper emotion to what you might be trying to portray.

I did not really get a chance to get out to photograph on day 3,4 and 5 so I decided to post a BW that I really liked from a day of shooting a few months ago. This is of Aubri Rhoads. A local designer in the NC area. This shoot we got a lot of great photographs and probably one of my better model shoots. I will continue to photograph again for the next post. Last three day’s were a bit rainy and blah.

Day 2: The NC state of things

I went to NC state to go pick up my brother from his long shift of working. He is working on a project for his masters degree. I found this a possible opportunity to work some more on my BW photography. When I walked in, you kind of get pushed back with the amount of stuff laying around. Looking closer they are all tools, ideas and projects being worked on. My brother was working on a large tablet computer and was finalizing some close up work on a character of his. After taking the pictures I went outside in a hall and saw the chair. The chair oddly enough was placed right in front of a blank wall. It kind of got my thoughts racing as if someone sat there looking at a blank wall to figure out how to create art in an empty space. I found it in a way very poetic and thoughtful.

Day 1 and Snow:

It finally started to snow today and it kind of got my juices flowing. We do not get much snow in NC so this was a treat. I drove around town for a little while picking and looking for spots. I came up on the NC state club and hidden right behind the building was a photography gem. I decided I am going to start shooting a lot in BW. I want to experiement more in that area. It was a beautiful day for shooting.

365:

I have seen a lot of photographers perform the 365 day photo challenge. They take a photograph everyday and put the story behind the photograph. I have always been intrigued by this and found that there are some amazing stories and photographs that happen. I want to give this a try. Take my camera everywhere with me for 365 day’s. Anywhere I go and take a picture everyday for 365 day’s. When I get photographs now it is because of an idea or it is just a beautiful day. I want to see what kind of things I can capture while doing the photography challenge. Starting tomorrow on 12/4/10 will be day 1. Looking forward to the things it might bring.

Finding your photography nitch:

I have been a nature and art photographer for years now. I get asked a lot, “What is your photography Knitch, your style?”. I basically built my portfolio solely based on that kind of photography. I have recently tried to out-step my boundaries by doing a lot more portrait, model and action photography. This is a whole new adventure for me because it takes a different eye to really create a great promotional picture for a model. I think I have found my first success in that department. After working on a model shoot for a local fashion show I started to create and work on the pictures. I really found this picture of a model extremely stunning and she had a natural beauty about her. I darkened the background and played with some lighting. The final product is something I could of never imagined. I was very proud of the results.

Now most of my photography has dealt with landscapes and nature. I have found this to be extremely therapudic for many reasons. 1. I am with nature and 2. I am with nature. Getting up early in the morning and just waiting for that beautiful sunrise or waiting till the sunset can bring so many photographic opportunities. I am very proud of my work in dealing with nature. I have taken a great deal of time working on my eye and trying to capture what I see through the lense. Sometimes is works and some times it does not. This picture was taken in the early morning just as the sun was starting to rise over the tree’s. There was a slight fog that was lifting but the reflection in the water caught my eye and I could not miss the opportunity to capture it. I am very happy with the results.

Trying to find your nitch can take some time. I think I am still working on that and trying to develop my own view of photography. Nature photography has always been a great passion of mine and will continue to be. I hope to continue and learn more. So if someone asks me about my photography nitch, I just tell them.. “I am still working on it”

Mid flight:

I spent some time at my favorite photography spot Fred Bon Park. I always like to hit this place because nature seems to just come out. Some places you go to nature seems to hide. I was walking by the lake when I saw some small birds gather around a feeding tube. I got close and the birds did not seem to mind. I am trying to get some mid-flight shots. It is very tough because you need to adjust your aperture and shutter speed just right. This was my first attempt. Not bad for the first attempt.

Veterans of Honor:

There is a local veterans park that I have driven by on numerous occasions. As I drove by today, instead of passing it I stopped to see the tribute. I started to take pictures of the many american flags that had adorned the memorial when something caught my eye. I was looking at the statue and noticed something different. I saw a hat hanging from the statue, on closer examination it was an Army Rangers hat that someone had put there. That one small thing kind of put me in thought about the men and woman who are brave enough to defend and fight for the american flag. I then started reading some of the things on the stones and it was all very moving. There were new flowers placed next to the memorial. I was kind of shocked that I had passed by this almost everyday and only now did I take the time to see something that represents the courage, dedication and honor veterans carry with them everyday. They are veterans of honor.

Another Lazy Day part 2

I got up early this morning so I could catch the sun rising over the lake. It was a beautiful morning, the fog was just right and the air was crisp. My dog seri had a great time running around in the water. I kept my eyes out for anything that would capture my attention only to realize everything was getting my attention. Going out so early in the morning can have it’s benefits. It is fairly quiet, maybe only three other people around. I also got a chance to watch two Blue Herin’s hunt for morning breakfast. All in all it was a great hour of shooting, the other 30 minutes I just sat there and took in the beauty and sounds of the lake.
